Meet The Owner
Lailah Abdul-Mateen, MSW
Founder, Moonlight & Lullabies Overnight Childcare, LLC
Her story
Lailah is a mother, social worker, and experienced family services professional whose connection to childcare began in childhood. Her mother owned and operated a daycare and was part of a network of women who ran childcare programs, collaborating with and supporting one another. Growing up in that environment, Lailah assisted her mother and saw firsthand the relationships, routines, responsibility, and trust involved in caring for children and partnering with their families.
That early exposure became hands on professional experience. Lailah worked for a number of years at Best Beginnings, developing her experience working directly with young children and families. She later earned her Master of Social Work from Simmons University, along with a Certificate in Trauma Practice, and built a career dedicated to children, families, and community-based services.
As a Mental Health Consultant with The ECE in Columbia, Lailah worked within early childhood environments to better understand patterns of behavior and the social-emotional needs of young children. Her approach considered what behavior might be communicating, a child’s individual and environmental needs, and how parents, teachers, and caregivers responded.
A whole-child approach
Lailah’s experience strengthened her belief that a child’s behavior does not happen in isolation. Relationships, routines, environment, communication, expectations, and adult responses can all influence a child’s experience. Supporting children means looking at the whole picture and working collaboratively with the adults who care for them.
Care starts with curiosity, compassion, and an understanding of each child’s needs.
Comforting, consistent nighttime routines help children feel secure while parents work.
Open communication and shared expectations create a stronger care experience for everyone.
Why Moonlight & Lullabies
Through her professional work and her own experience as a working mother Lailah recognized a gap many families face: traditional childcare hours do not reflect the schedules of every working parent. Nurses, healthcare professionals, first responders, manufacturing and warehouse employees, hospitality professionals, and countless other parents continue working long after traditional programs close for the evening.
Moonlight & Lullabies Overnight Childcare, LLC was created with those families in mind. Lailah’s vision is a nurturing, structured, home-based childcare environment for families working third shift, overnight, and other nontraditional schedules a place where children can experience comfort, consistency, attentive care, and familiar nighttime routines while their parents work.
“When parents entrust someone with their child, they deserve to know their child will be seen, understood, protected, and genuinely cared for.”
For Lailah, Moonlight & Lullabies is a full-circle moment: from helping in her mother’s daycare, to working in childcare herself, to studying and supporting the behavioral and emotional needs of children and families, to becoming a mother and now creating a childcare program of her own.
Care you can trust while you work through the night.
